Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goat Milk

A Unique Breed

Nigerian Dwarf goats milk is higher in butterfat and has a sweet taste. It is better, by far, than milk from most dairy goats. Butterfat content is about 6-10%. It is also higher in protein than milk from most other breeds. A healthy doe can produce up to two quarts per day or more which is a surprising amount of milk from such a small goat.

The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy considers Nigerian Dwarfs to be a rare breed. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has also approved the Nigerian Dwarf Goat as a livestock dairy goat, which makes them eligible for youth 4H and FFA projects.

Why Goat Milk?

Most Americans drink cows milk. This is not the case around the world. Were it not for the heavily subsidized dairy industry in our country, perhaps other options would be more prevalent. Not only have we lost the benefits of using raw milk, we have opted for a mass produced and hormone aided substitute. Goat milk and cow milk have similar amounts of protein and vitamin D and C. However, Goat milk has more riboflavin and vitamins B and A. Goats convert all carotene into vitamin A making whiter milk. Goat milk has more acid buffering capacity than cow milk or soy formulas as well as non-prescription antacid drugs. It is also easier to digest than cow milk due to smaller fat globules. Goat milk is naturally homogenized. It also forms a softer curd making it easier to digest.

Goat milk is hypo allergenic, and does not have the protein that is the main cause of allergic reactions. This protein is called blactoglobulin. Look it up.

Goats' milk contains amino acids and vitamin A for healthy skin, as well as lactic acid which acts as an exfoliant. Exfoliants cleanse and soften the skin. The ph level of goat's milk is very close to our natural skin ph. Thus goats milk soap is gentle enough for those with even the most sensitive skin.

The following nutrients and minerals can be found in plenty in goat milk: calcium, triotophan (an amino acid), magnesium, protein, phosphorus, riboflavin(b12), potassium, sodium selenium, zinc, vitamin A, D and choline. It also contains vitamins like C, E, K, niacin, and folate. It also contains uric acid. This is significant in the prevention of fatty liver syndromes.
